The Plenary of the Agüimes Town Council has approved a credit modification of 1,005,925.95 euros to finance works in Los Corralillos and the avenue of Los Pescadores, as well as to strengthen essential services such as street cleaning and animal care.
The ordinary Plenary of the Agüimes Town Council, held this Wednesday, gave the green light to a credit modification of just over one million euros (1,005,925.95 euros), financed from the treasury surplus for general expenses. This measure will allow for the reinforcement of the execution of works and the provision of various municipal services for the remainder of the year.
Among the planned actions, the repair of the pavement on the avenue of Los Pescadores, the paving of a street in the historic centre of Los Corralillos, and the improvement of the kitchen and equipment at the Montaña de Los Vélez Primary and Early Childhood Education School (CEIP) stand out. These works aim to improve the quality of life for residents in different neighbourhoods of the municipality.
The budget modification also includes the necessary funding to reinforce contracts and municipal services. Specifically, funds will be allocated for the cleaning of sports facilities and the Hydrotherapy Centre at the Cruce de Arinaga, as well as for street cleaning services. Additionally, resources will be assigned for animal care in accordance with the new requirements of the Animal Welfare Law, and for contributions to the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium.
In the same session, a technical budget modification of 14,500 euros was approved, aimed at adapting the accounting classification of the municipal contribution to Agüimes Rural Tourism for the management of the History Museum. The change does not imply any variation in the amount or purpose of the funds, but rather their adjustment to the General Subsidies Law, municipal sources explained.
In the motions section, the Plenary unanimously approved the initiative presented by the Mixed Group to urge the Gran Canaria Cabildo to promote an extraordinary plan for the expansion of socio-healthcare places and to study the establishment of a public socio-healthcare centre in the Southeast region. The aim is to improve care for the elderly and dependent individuals, and to help reduce hospital occupancy by patients awaiting such resources.
During the Plenary, issues related to the maintenance of public spaces, the status of various municipal actions, and the progress of several ongoing projects were also addressed. The governing group provided information about the degree of execution and the planned actions for the coming months.
The residents of Agüimes will directly benefit from these improvements, especially in the areas of Los Corralillos and the avenue of Los Pescadores, where a renewal of the pavement and paving is expected. Likewise, the educational community of the CEIP Montaña de Los Vélez will see improvements in kitchen facilities and equipment, which will impact the quality of the school meal service.
The reinforcement of cleaning contracts and animal care will also have a direct impact on the daily life of the municipality, with better-maintained sports facilities and hydrotherapy centre, and improved management of abandoned or homeless animals.
The approval of this credit modification is part of the budget management of the Agüimes Town Council, which uses the treasury surplus to finance investments and services without resorting to new debt. The measure has the support of the governing team and aims to respond to the most urgent needs of the municipality.
