The mayor, Vanesa Martín, and the councillor, Almudena Hernández, welcomed the 36 participants of the Villa de Ingenio 2026 Training and Employment Plan, which combines training and work experience for seven months.
A total of 36 people began their journey in the Villa de Ingenio 2026 Training and Employment Plan this Friday, a programme that will allow them to gain work experience while receiving training in key competencies over the next seven months. The mayor, Vanesa Martín, and the councillor for Employment and Local Development, Almudena Hernández, received the student-workers and the technical team at an event held in the municipality.
The plan, funded with €310,545.33 by the Canary Islands Employment Service and the State Public Employment Service, along with a municipal contribution that raises the total investment to €337,670.06, focuses on improving public spaces. The participants, divided into specialties of gardening, painting, and street cleaning, will carry out their work in parks, gardens, municipal buildings, and other common areas.
In the gardening area, tasks include manual weeding, raking, organic fertilising, installation of irrigation systems, small pruning, seedbeds, and plant propagation. The activities will take place in parks such as Cercado Grande, María Tomasa, La Ilusión, El Sequero, El Lirón, Santísimo, Montañeta, Majoreras, El Toril, and El Burrero, as well as on the avenues of Valencia, La Gloria, and La Florida.
Meanwhile, the painting team will be responsible for repainting municipal buildings, parks, and other public spaces, as well as waterproofing roofs. The cleaning group will carry out the conditioning of plots and parcels, cleaning the coastline, waste management, removal of junk from municipal facilities, and transferring administrative documentation.
Training will be provided two days a week, focusing on Level 2 Key Competencies in Mathematics and Spanish Language, which will facilitate access to future professional certificates. The other three days will be dedicated to practical experience. The team consists of teaching staff, administrative personnel, gardening and cleaning supervisors, painting officials, and the student-workers.
The mayor, Vanesa Martín, congratulated the participants on this new stage and urged them to be responsible, highlighting that their work will have a direct impact on improving public spaces and the quality of life for citizens. Councillor Almudena Hernández emphasised the commitment of the Employment area to continue promoting initiatives that facilitate access to employment and the professional and personal development of local residents.
