A collision between two cars early in the morning on the GC-100 in Ingenio has left two people with moderate injuries. One of the vehicles overturned and its occupant had to be rescued by firefighters.

The accident occurred shortly after 05:42 hours on Monday, when two vehicles collided on the GC-100 road as it passes through the municipality of Ingenio. The impact caused one of the cars to overturn on the roadway, leaving its driver trapped inside.

Several calls alerted CECOES 1-1-2, which immediately mobilised emergency services. Personnel from the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium arrived at the scene and proceeded to rescue the trapped occupant, a task that took several minutes due to the deformation of the cabin.

Medical assistance and transfer of the injured

Staff from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) attended to the two affected individuals at the scene. A 43-year-old man sustained moderate injuries and was evacuated by a medicalised ambulance to the Insular University Hospital of Gran Canaria. The second man, also with moderate injuries, was transferred in a basic life support ambulance to the same hospital.

SUC sources indicated that both injured individuals are stable and, barring complications, their prognosis is favourable. The insular hospital is the reference centre for the eastern area of Gran Canaria, where Ingenio is located.

Intervention on the road and restoration of traffic

Agents from the Civil Guard were responsible for conducting the proceedings to clarify the causes of the accident, while the Local Police of Ingenio assisted with safety and road closures during the rescue and cleaning operations.

Workers from the Road Conservation Service of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria acted to clean up the debris from the impact and remove the spilled oils from the roadway, restoring normal traffic flow after 07:30 hours. The GC-100 is a heavily trafficked route for residents of Ingenio and neighbouring municipalities, connecting to the GC-1 motorway.

This accident once again highlights the safety of the island's secondary roads, where head-on collisions and rollovers are frequent. Authorities remind drivers of the importance of maintaining appropriate speed and attention while driving, especially in sections with curves and changes in gradient like those on the GC-100.

For drivers who use this road daily, the incident serves as a warning: caution is key to avoiding surprises. Fortunately, on this occasion, there were no fatalities, and the injured individuals are recovering well.
