The National Police have arrested seven people, including an officer from the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, for their alleged involvement in a drug trafficking network with its own infrastructure. Six of those arrested, including the police officer, have been placed in provisional custody.

An officer from the Local Police of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is among the seven arrested in a National Police operation against a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking. The network had its own logistical infrastructure for storing and distributing narcotics at various points on the island.

The investigation, carried out by specialized units, identified a structure with defined roles, support vehicles, and safe spaces for hiding the drugs. According to police sources, the group operated with a structure that facilitated the reception, concealment, and subsequent distribution of substances in the local market.

The role of the municipal officer

The alleged involvement of the local police officer was key to the organization, as he provided operational information and cover for the other members. His status as a law enforcement officer allowed him access to sensitive data that could have been used to evade police action.

Agents detected suspicious movements linked to several individuals, which allowed them to trace the flow of goods and locate storage points. During the operation, seven arrests were made, including that of the municipal officer.

Preventive custody and charges

After being brought before the court, six of the detainees —including the local police officer— have been placed in preventive custody, while the seventh has been released under precautionary measures. The investigating court has kept the case open for charges of drug trafficking, membership in a criminal organization, and possible revelation of secrets.

The National Police continue the investigation under judicial coordination and with the participation of specialized units in organized crime. The operation has been reported by local media such as Canarias7 and La Provincia, citing police sources.

This case represents a severe blow to the image of the municipal body, which has already opened an internal investigation. The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has shown its cooperation with justice and reiterated its commitment to transparency. The residents of the Gran Canaria capital are closely following the development of a case involving an officer who was supposed to ensure their safety.
