The beaches of Telde have become an international film set this week. The municipality is hosting the filming of 'The Last Druid', a blockbuster starring actor Russell Crowe, who has chosen locations such as Playa del Hombre and Hoya del Pozo for its scenes.
The mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, and the councillor for Beaches, María Calderín, visited the filming on Tuesday to welcome the team. During the meeting, they were accompanied by Adrián Guerra, founder of Nostromo Pictures, the production company responsible for the film.
Peña described it as a “pride” that productions of this scale are once again focusing on Telde. “Seeing today in our city an international team of this nature, with professionals from different parts of the world, working on a project starring a figure like Russell Crowe, demonstrates Telde's enormous potential,” declared the mayor.
The technical and human deployment of the production is remarkable, with a large team of professionals from various nationalities working together. The choice of Telde is due to the municipality's diverse landscapes, which combine coastline, natural spaces, and urban areas.
The visit from municipal representatives also served to gain firsthand knowledge of the filming logistics. The City Council highlighted that the film activity generates a direct economic return for the city, as production companies pay municipal fees for the reservation and use of public spaces.
Moreover, the national and international dissemination of films contributes to promoting Telde's locations to millions of viewers. 'The Last Druid' joins other productions that have chosen the municipality in recent years, such as 'Vaya Vacaciones' or 'Leones en invierno', the latter featuring José Coronado.
The filming coincides with the City Council's strategic commitment to the audiovisual sector. Last week, the Local Government Board approved an investment of over one million euros to create a new film studio in El Goro. This infrastructure will expand the municipality's capacity to host future projects.
The mayor emphasized that the arrival of 'The Last Druid' consolidates Telde as a reference in the Canary Islands for large productions. “It is a magnificent opportunity to project our municipality beyond our borders,” he added.
The filming will take place over several days along the Telde coastline. The City Council reaffirms its commitment to continue facilitating the arrival of new productions, within its competencies, to highlight emblematic spaces and generate economic and promotional returns for the city.
