The locality of El Palmar, in the municipality of Teror, will experience one of the central events of its patronal festivities in honour of the Virgen de Las Nieves this Saturday, August 1. The traditional offering-pilgrimage will begin at 20:00, when locals and visitors will present local produce to the image of the virgin.
The day will include traditional games and activities with animals for both children and adults, as well as musical performances by the Parranda 'Pa´lante' and soloist César Santana. This event is part of a festive programme that started on July 25 and will continue until August 15.
On Friday, July 31, at 21:00, the concert 'Voices with Roots of the People' will take place, featuring the Parranda El Lebrillo, with performances by Aidil Peña, Jose Vicente G., Pedro Artiles, Vicente Oliver M., and Omar Ross. This concert will serve as a prelude to the main day of the pilgrimage.
A programme full of tradition and humour
The festivities in El Palmar began on July 25 with the traditional procession of the image from the Ermita de La Peña to the Parish Church, followed by the opening speech by local resident Antonio Carmelo Sánchez Sánchez, who reminisced about moments and people from the neighbourhood. The inaugural event concluded with a performance by Los Guayres del Palmar.
Next week, on Tuesday, August 4, at 20:30, there will be a day of humour featuring artist Maestro Florido. On Wednesday, August 5, the main day of the festivities, the procession of the image around the parish temple will take place, and at 20:30, Pedro Manuel Afonso will perform with the show 'Haciendo camino'.
On August 7, the 'Cuban Night' will be celebrated, and on Saturday, August 8, the traditional 'Bajada del güevo duro' will take place, with music from Pepe Benavente, Reina de sal, and Furia Joven, among others. The programme will culminate on August 15 with the return of the image of the Virgen de Las Nieves to the Ermita de la Peña, thus closing a festive cycle deeply rooted in the area.
