Lanzarote sailor Alberto Morales has been crowned absolute European silver medallist in WASZP, while his brother Miguel Ángel Morales has been crowned U21 European champion at the championship held in Mar Menor.

The name of Lanzarote shines once again in the elite of European sailing. Brothers Alberto and Miguel Ángel Morales have delivered a historic performance at the WASZP European Championship, held in the waters of Mar Menor (Murcia), achieving a double podium that places the island on the international map of this discipline.

Alberto Morales, Absolute European Runner-Up

Alberto Morales, a sailor from the Canary Islands Sailing Federation, has won the silver medal in the absolute category after a competition that was fiercely contested until the last moment. The Lanzarote native remained in the fight for the lead throughout the thirteen races of the championship, stringing together results that allowed him to compete for the European title until the final day. Ultimately, he was declared the European runner-up, one of the best results of his international career.

The continental event, which brought together 82 sailors from different countries, took place in excellent wind conditions throughout the week, allowing the programme of races to be completed without setbacks. Alberto Morales demonstrated exceptional competitive level, establishing himself among the best in the WASZP class.

Miguel Ángel Morales, U21 European Champion

Meanwhile, Miguel Ángel Morales had a very solid championship, consistently placing among the top competitors throughout the competition. His fourth absolute position earned him the title of U21 European champion, confirming his progression as one of the young talents in the WASZP class. This success comes just a week after his brilliant performance at the Spanish Championship, where both brothers also ranked among the best.

The double success of the Morales brothers marks a milestone for Canary Islands sailing and, in particular, for Lanzarote, which sees two of its sailors positioned in the European elite. Both compete representing the Canary Islands Sailing Federation, with support from entities such as Turismark Management, Lanzarote Sport Destination, Marina Rubicón, and Lanzarote Sails, which continue to support their sporting growth.

A Dream Summer for Lanzarote Sailing

This double continental podium adds to the successes achieved at the recent Spanish Championship of WASZP, where the Morales brothers already showcased their potential. Two weeks of competition at the highest level that consolidate Lanzarote as a benchmark in light sailing. For Canary Islands fans, seeing two sailors from the island at the top of the European podium is a source of pride and a testament to the good work being done at the grassroots level of local sailing.

The next objective for the Morales brothers will be the WASZP World Championship, which will take place on date yet to be confirmed. With this double success, expectations are high and excitement is overflowing. Lanzarote once again demonstrates that talent and effort are rewarded in the sport of sailing.
