The NC-BC candidate for the Presidency of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Yoné Caraballo, has expressed gratitude for the support received in the first week after announcing his candidacy, stating that there is "a tremendous excitement to open a new chapter."
Yoné Caraballo, candidate for the Presidency of the Cabildo of Lanzarote for Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC), has reviewed his first week of campaigning. In a statement released this Sunday, the politician wanted to publicly thank the messages of support he has received since announcing his candidacy.
According to Caraballo, the messages received "demonstrate that there is a tremendous excitement to open a new chapter for Lanzarote, with new faces, new ways of doing politics, and a project that speaks directly to the people of Lanzarote." The candidate has assured that he has spoken with people from all corners of the island.
A participatory project
The Canarian candidate has pointed out that his goal is to build a broad, open, and participatory project that represents the social majority of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. "I do not want to build a project solely of political parties. I want an island project where social collectives, unions, neighbourhood associations, cultural, sports, and environmental groups, the economic fabric, and all those disenchanted with politics have a voice," he stated.
Caraballo has argued that the island needs to regain trust in public institutions through a governing style based on closeness. "The transformation our island needs will only be possible if we can bring together different sensitivities, listen more, and govern with the interests of the social majority in mind," he added.
Cross-sectional support
The candidate has highlighted that the support received comes from people of various ideological backgrounds. "I have received messages from neighbours, professionals, young people, the elderly, individuals linked to the social movement, and also from those who have never participated in politics or voters from both the left and the right. They all agree that Lanzarote needs a change," he explained.
For Caraballo, this response confirms that "there is hope, that there is a desire for change, and that many of us believe we still have time to recover our island." The candidate has reiterated his commitment to continue touring the island to listen to citizens and build a candidacy that aims to represent the majority.
