CD ESNA Lanzarote was the club with the highest representation from the island at the National Alevín Championship held in Cádiz. Tania Herrera made it to the final of the 400 meters freestyle.
CD ESNA Lanzarote has become the Lanzarote club with the most presence at the XIII National Alevín Swimming Championship, held last week in Cádiz. Four young swimmers from the club competed at the national event, showcasing their progress and achieving notable results.
The team, consisting of Tania Herrera, Asier González, Aitana Camacho, and Valentina Fernández, travelled to Cádiz to compete against the best young swimmers in the country. For Aitana and Valentina, both born in 2014, the championship marked their debut in a competition of this level, accompanied by the nerves typical of a first experience.
Tania Herrera, finalist in the 400 meters freestyle
Tania Herrera was the standout performer of the group. The swimmer from ESNA Lanzarote managed to improve her personal bests in all three events she participated in. In the 400 meters freestyle, she finished in eighth place in the final, while in the 800 meters freestyle she was tenth, and in the 200 meters freestyle, eleventh.
Her performance demonstrates a solid progression and positions her among the promising talents of Canary swimming. Making it to a national final is a milestone that boosts her confidence for future competitions.
Asier González, significant improvement in his events
Meanwhile, Asier González concluded his participation with a notable improvement. The young swimmer achieved a personal best in the 200 and 400 meters freestyle, finishing in 13th place in the 800 meters freestyle, a highly demanding event.
His development reflects the work being done in the youth categories at ESNA Lanzarote, which focuses on nurturing local talent from an early age.
Debut and learning for the younger swimmers
Valentina Fernández and Aitana Camacho, both from 2014, experienced their first experience in a National Championship. Although they did not reach the finals, the mere fact of competing at a national level provides valuable learning that will aid their sporting development.
The club views the participation positively, considering that the swimmers had to achieve minimum qualifying times for each event throughout the season, a requirement that demonstrates the level of competition.
For Lanzarote fans, seeing these young athletes representing the island at a national championship is a source of pride. Canary swimming continues to make strides forward, and ESNA Lanzarote is establishing itself as a breeding ground for talent. The next event will be next season, where these swimmers will aim to improve their records and, who knows, perhaps win some medals.
