The eleventh edition of the UDLP Campus in Lanzarote concluded this Saturday at the Municipal Football Field of Yaiza with a day of exhibitions, diploma presentations, and a visit from the mascot Pío Pío.
UD Las Palmas has successfully closed its eleventh summer campus in Lanzarote. Over fifteen days, nearly a hundred young footballers participated in the training activities organised by the UDLP School and Foundation at the Municipal Football Field of Yaiza. The closing event, held this Saturday, brought together families, authorities, and collaborators for a morning that combined sport and emotion.
Exhibitions and diploma presentations at the Yaiza field
The participants were the stars of the closing day. On the pitch, they performed exhibitions showcasing the skills acquired during the two weeks of training. Family members, who filled the stands, were able to closely observe the progress of the young talents. The event culminated in the presentation of diplomas, a moment that was warmly applauded by those present.
The club's official mascot, Pío Pío, did not want to miss the occasion. Its presence cheered up the little ones and became the centre of photos and hugs. The organisers highlighted the festive atmosphere and the involvement of families, who supported the young people throughout the campus.
Institutional support and public-private collaboration
The event featured a strong institutional representation. From the Yaiza Town Hall, the mayor, Óscar Noda; the sports councillor, Ángel Lago; and the security councillor, Beatriz Vázquez, attended. Yeray Sánchez and Manolo López were also present, representing the UDLP School and Foundation. Campus collaborators, such as Eduardo Miquel (Hotel Costa Calero Thalasso & Spa) and Ángel Castellano (executive of Yaiza), supported the event.
The campus has been made possible thanks to the synergy between the Sports Department of Yaiza and the support of Volkswagen Canarias and the Hotel Costa Calero Thalasso & Spa. The town hall positively evaluated the initiative, which promotes grassroots sports and offers an educational leisure alternative during the summer.
Next stops for the UDLP Campus: La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma
Following the success in Lanzarote, the technical team of the UDLP School is already packing their bags for the upcoming events. In the coming days, the campuses will move to La Gomera, El Hierro and La Palma, where they will continue with their training methodology. These new editions will maintain the same spirit of learning and fun that characterised the Yaiza campus.
For young Canarians interested in football, these campuses represent a unique opportunity to train with the UD Las Palmas youth academy. Spots usually fill up quickly, so the organisers recommend keeping an eye on registration dates. The next campus will kick off in La Gomera next week.
