Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche, Portuarios Puertos de Las Palmas and Villa de Agüimes Ybarra have qualified for the grand final of the knockout tournament after an exciting semi-final in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
This Saturday, the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria was the scene of an intense semi-final of the Fundación La Caja de Canarias Tournament, where five boats competed for the three spots in the grand final. With winds of 16 knots and a direction of 360º, the regatta provided a great spectacle and clearly demonstrated the excellent level of the fleet.
Pueblo Guanche, the fastest
The Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche, helmed by José Ponce, was the dominant force of the day. They recorded the best time of 1:07:29, securing their place in the final with authority. The boat, one of the most decorated in Canarian Latin Sailing, showed why it is a strong contender for the title.
The second spot went to Portuarios Puertos de Las Palmas, with Juanjo Díaz at the helm. They completed the course in 1:08:11, just 42 seconds behind the winner, also confirming their qualification. The crew showed great consistency on a day when conditions were not easy.
Villa de Agüimes secures the last ticket
The third and final ticket to the final went to Villa de Agüimes Ybarra, helmed by Alejandro Rodríguez, who crossed the finish line with a time of 1:09:00. The battle for that spot was intense, as Chacalote Comercial SanRob and Spar Guerra del Río pushed hard until the end.
Chacalote Comercial SanRob, skippered by Adrián Morales, finished with 1:11:32, while Spar Guerra del Río, helmed by Alfred Morales, stopped the clock at 1:12:55. Both were eliminated and bid farewell to the tournament just before the final, although their performance was commendable.
A high-level final
With these results, Hospital La Paloma Pueblo Guanche, Portuarios Puertos de Las Palmas and Villa de Agüimes Ybarra will compete in the grand final of the Fundación La Caja de Canarias Tournament, where the champion of this edition will be decided. The event promises to be thrilling, with three boats that have proven their worth throughout the competition.
