The Yaiza Town Hall has submitted the improvement project for the children's park in El Golfo, a space widely used by families in the coastal village.
The Yaiza Town Hall has taken a key step towards the renovation of the children's park in El Golfo. The improvement project has already been sent to the General Directorate of Costas, the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Cabildo of Lanzarote, administrations with jurisdiction in the area as it is located in the public maritime-terrestrial domain.
The children's park in El Golfo, situated on the seafront of this coastal locality in the southern municipality of Lanzarote, is a meeting point for families in the village and for tourists visiting the area. Over time, its facilities have become outdated and require a comprehensive update.
The project includes the replacement of the current playground equipment with more modern and safer options, as well as improvements to the pavement and the installation of new urban furniture. The renewal of lighting and the adaptation of the surroundings to make it more accessible are also planned.
The Mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has highlighted the importance of this action for the community. "El Golfo is one of the most important tourist and residential hubs in the municipality, and its residents deserve quality leisure spaces," the mayor stated.
The local council explains that the park is located in a transit and coastal protection servitude area, which requires favourable reports from the three administrations before the works can be executed. Therefore, the Town Hall has opted to submit the project simultaneously to Costas, the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Cabildo, aiming to expedite the procedures.
The Councillor for Works and Services of the Yaiza Town Hall, Águeda Cedrés, has emphasised that "this is a project highly demanded by the residents of El Golfo, who have been requesting improvements to this park for some time." Cedrés added that "the government team is working to ensure that we can start the works as soon as possible and provide a modern and safe space for the little ones."
The project has been drafted by the municipal technical services and has an estimated budget of around €150,000, according to sources from the Town Hall. The funding will come from municipal coffers, although possible collaboration avenues with other administrations are being explored.
Once the three administrations issue their reports, the Yaiza Town Hall will be able to tender the works. If everything goes as planned, the works could begin throughout next year, although the Town Hall prefers to be cautious and wait for the administrative timelines.
El Golfo is one of the most emblematic localities in the municipality of Yaiza, known for its green lake and volcanic landscapes. The children's park is located in a very busy area, both by residents and tourists, so its renovation will represent a significant improvement for the image of the seafront.
With this initiative, the Yaiza Town Hall continues its plan to improve public infrastructure in the various hubs of the municipality. In recent years, parks in Playa Blanca, Femés, and Las Breñas, among others, have been renovated.
The residents of El Golfo have received the news with optimism. "We have been asking for years for the park to be fixed because the equipment is very old and sometimes the children get hurt," comments María, a resident of the locality. "I hope the works happen soon and we can enjoy a new park," she adds.
The Yaiza Town Hall is confident that the reports from the administrations will be favourable and that the project can be executed without delays. In the meantime, they will continue working on drafting other improvement projects for the municipality.
