Candelaria Local Police completely shut down an establishment on Las Arenitas street in Las Caletillas for serious violations. The venue lacked a licence for a bar with music and the prior precautionary measures were not complied with.
The Candelaria Town Hall has executed the total closure of an establishment on Las Arenitas street in Las Caletillas, after confirming serious violations of the regulations. The intervention, carried out last Friday, July 10, by the Local Police, responds to a case opened due to residents' complaints alerting of constant disturbances.
Residents' complaints and municipal case
Local residents had been complaining that patrons of the establishment were consuming alcoholic beverages in public, with music and karaoke preventing their rest. The Candelaria Town Hall then initiated a case and granted a deadline for the owner to present the required documentation, such as the authorisation for occupying public space and a technical project for soundproofing.
The owner submitted objections, but these were dismissed for failing to provide the required documentation. The council issued a decree with provisional measures: immediate cessation of music and removal of tables and chairs from the terrace.
Non-compliance and new inspection
On June 20, the Local Police conducted an inspection and found that the measures had not been complied with. The removal of furniture was ordered again, but the request was ignored, leading to proceedings being sent to the court for an alleged crime of disobedience to authority.
In light of the persistence, the Candelaria Town Hall issued a new decree on July 7, which prompted the operation on the 10th. The agents proceeded to the total closure of the establishment, sealing it off and placing informative signs. Additionally, municipal staff removed the tables and chairs occupying public space.
Video surveillance and potential data infringement
During the intervention, the agents detected video surveillance cameras that focused not only on the interior of the establishment but also on the access and part of the public space. Given the possible irregularities, the case will be forwarded to the Spanish Data Protection Agency to assess whether regulations have been violated.
The Candelaria Town Hall emphasises that the closure aims to ensure legality, protect community coexistence, and preserve the safety of individuals. The residents of Las Caletillas, who had been enduring the disturbances for months, now see their demands addressed.
The closure will remain in effect until the circumstances that motivated it are resolved. The establishment must regularise its situation and obtain the necessary licences if it wishes to reopen. In the meantime, the case remains in the hands of the judiciary for the alleged crime of disobedience.
