The La Laguna City Council has begun the preliminary work for the Christmas lighting campaign, which will include more than 3,500 decorative elements. The preparations are initially focused on the historic centre and will extend throughout the municipality.

The Municipal Services area of the La Laguna City Council has launched the preparatory work for the 2026 Christmas lighting campaign. With over 3,500 decorative motifs planned, the council has decided to start the work several months in advance to ensure everything is ready by the time of the official lighting.

The municipal teams have started work in the historic centre, specifically on the streets of Heraclio Sánchez, Juan de Vera, El Juego, San Juan, Nava and Grimón, and La Piterita. At these locations, the necessary preliminary actions are being carried out for the subsequent installation of the lighting, which will continue progressively over the coming months until it covers the entire municipality.

The Councillor for Municipal Services, Fran Hernández, explained that “a campaign of this scale requires significant prior planning. We are talking about thousands of decorative elements that will arrive in the historic centre, but also in our towns and neighbourhoods, so it is essential to start the technical work now so that, when the time for the lighting arrives, everything is prepared with the utmost guarantees.”

Advance planning allows these tasks to be carried out at a time of year with lower traffic intensity, especially on the main roads and avenues, facilitating the work of the installation teams and reducing the impact on mobility and daily activities of the citizens. Additionally, the campaign requires the use of vehicles with lifting platforms, coordination of various technical means, and conducting checks before the official lighting.

Hernández highlighted that “we want Christmas to once again be a meeting point for residents and visitors, but also a boost for our commerce, hospitality, and the economic activity of the municipality. That’s why we plan every detail with enough time and work to ensure that the lighting reaches all corners of La Laguna in a balanced way, respecting the identity of each town and neighbourhood.”

The campaign will again incorporate new decorative proposals while maintaining the reuse and adaptation of elements from previous years. All the ornamentation will use low-energy LED technology, promoting energy savings, responsible resource use, and reducing environmental impact. Details of the planned innovations will be announced as the planning progresses.

The supply of the elements, as well as the installation, maintenance, and subsequent dismantling work, will be undertaken by the company awarded the service, in accordance with the conditions established in the contract, meaning that the Christmas lighting campaign will not incur additional costs for the City Council.

Fran Hernández concluded by stating that “bringing forward this work is a decision based on planning and efficiency. Our goal is to offer a quality, sustainable Christmas campaign that meets the expectations of the citizens, taking care of both the image of the municipality and the development of work that requires time, coordination, and significant technical organisation.”

The official lighting is expected to take place at the end of November, although the exact date will be announced later. Residents and merchants of the municipality will be able to enjoy a decoration that, once again, aims to make La Laguna a Christmas reference point on the island of Tenerife.
