The Gáldar Agricultural Market saw a large turnout this Sunday, 26th July, as part of the Major Santiago Festivities. The stalls of local and artisanal products sold out.
The Gáldar Agricultural Market was once again a resounding success this Sunday, 26th July, coinciding with the celebration of the Major Santiago Festivities. The event, which took place on the side of the Plaza de Santiago next to the Parochial House, attracted numerous locals and visitors who filled the historic centre throughout the morning.
The intense festive programme and the large influx of people led to a high number of purchases at the stalls. Products such as seasonal fruits and vegetables, cheeses, honey, bread, and artisanal sweets were the most in demand, consolidating the market as a biweekly reference space for local consumption.
This edition featured a culinary novelty: a tasting breakfast prepared by students from the Employment Alternating Training Programmes (PFAE) in Restoration and Cooking. These programmes, funded by the Canary Islands Employment Service, are developed at the Gáldar Municipal Training Centre. The dishes were made with products purchased directly from the market stalls, offering attendees a sample of the local culinary potential.
The Agricultural Market is organised by the Socioeconomic Development Department of the Gáldar City Council, led by Tine Marín Ojeda, and the Agricultural Markets Association of Gran Canaria. It also receives support from the Department of Primary Sector, Food Sovereignty, and Water Security of the Gran Canaria Cabildo.
For the residents of Gáldar, this event represents an opportunity to support the island's primary sector and access fresh, quality products. The City Council has highlighted the importance of maintaining these spaces that promote the local economy and sustainability. The next edition of the Agricultural Market will take place in two weeks, according to the usual schedule.
