Pablo Zósimo Nieto Sanz has announced his resignation as director of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority, citing personal reasons. His departure comes days after a specialised media outlet revealed links with companies that contracted with the port.
The director of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority, Pablo Zósimo Nieto Sanz, has submitted his resignation and will leave the position on 24 July. He communicated this to the staff via an internal email on Monday, 20 July, justifying his decision by "personal reasons," according to this newspaper.
In the message, Nieto Sanz thanked the support received during his time at the helm of the organisation and highlighted that it has been "a true privilege to be part of this project and to have the opportunity to work alongside such committed, professional, and above all, human individuals." He concluded by stating that "it has been an honour to be part of this stage."
The director's departure comes just days after the specialised digital outlet CanaryMaritime published an investigation based on documentation from the Commercial Registry, the Official State Bulletin (BOE), the Public Sector Contracting Platform, and the Transparency Portal. It pointed out alleged links between Nieto Sanz and companies that participated in contracting processes at the port.
According to the aforementioned investigation, several commercial entities shared the same registered address at different times in a building in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Among them is Gesproytec Ingeniería Civil y Comunicaciones S.L., of which the Commercial Registry identifies Pablo Zósimo Nieto Sanz as the liquidator. This position was not reflected in the institutional curriculum published on the Port Authority's website when consulted by the media.
Furthermore, CanaryMaritime reported that Nieto Sanz was a full member of a contracting table of the Port Authority held in 2025. In that procedure, a temporary union of companies that included one of the entities mentioned in the investigation submitted a bid, although the contract was ultimately awarded to another company.
Pablo Zósimo Nieto Sanz was appointed director of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority in February 2024. Since then, according to industry sources, he had gained recognition from the Tenerife port community for his management. However, his resignation now opens a period of uncertainty regarding who will assume the leadership of the organisation.
So far, the Port Authority has not officially informed about the succession process nor designated a replacement. More details about the leadership transition of the entity, which manages the ports of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, are expected to emerge in the coming days.
