Asamblea Majorera-Coalición Canaria reviews the semester and highlights the medical helicopter, the boost to the CAE of La Lajita, and new clinics in El Matorral and El Castillo.
Healthcare in Fuerteventura has made significant strides in recent months, according to the report presented by Asamblea Majorera-Coalición Canaria. The political party has focused on the arrival of the medical helicopter, a long-standing demand of the people of Fuerteventura that is now a reality.
The medical helicopter is already operating on the island, reducing response times in emergencies and improving care in critical situations. AM-CC describes it as a key tool for saving lives, especially in an island with a growing population and a high transient population.
“This demand originated from the people of Fuerteventura itself, and for us, it was non-negotiable that it became a reality during this term,” state the island's Executive. The aircraft allows for shorter distances in critical situations, an advancement that the party considers a priority.
Boost to health infrastructure: CAE of La Lajita and clinics
Another highlighted milestone is the Specialist Care Centre (CAE) of La Lajita, a long-standing demand from the south of the island. The project has received a significant boost this legislature, and on June 16, the contract for the drafting of the project was awarded. The land transfer by the Pájara City Council, managed by councillor Alexis Alonso, expedited the process.
In primary care, the clinic in El Cotillo has already been launched, and the one in Vega del Río Palma has been renovated. By 2026, there are plans to enhance the clinics in El Matorral, in Puerto del Rosario, and El Castillo, in Antigua.
In El Matorral, the City Council has already transferred a plot, and the technical project is under development. The plan is to tender the drafting of the project in the last semester of this year. In El Castillo, the land transfer of over 2,000 square meters is in the final phase, with the administrative processing handled by the Urban Planning councillor, David Alberto.
Urgent Care Point in Antigua and improvements in health centres
Within the municipality of Antigua, work is also underway to create a Point of Urgent Care. The Canary Islands Health Service has requested the transfer of an adjacent plot to the current health centre to build suitable facilities. The technical study is already completed, and coordination between both administrations is progressing.
AM-CC reminds that these actions respond to the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to update the health map of the island, with actions in all municipalities. The party has continuously monitored the demands conveyed by the Cabildo and the city councils.
“During the preparation of the budgets, we demanded a greater commitment to healthcare in Fuerteventura to correct the deficiencies inherited from the Pact of the Flowers,” emphasize the island's Executive. The rapid growth of the resident population and the high volume of transient population made it essential to reinforce healthcare resources.
For the residents of Fuerteventura, these advancements represent a tangible improvement in healthcare. The medical helicopter is already operational, the CAE of La Lajita is progressing, and the new clinics will bring primary care closer to more population centres. The expectation is that the clinic in El Matorral will be operational next year, while the one in El Castillo and the Urgent Care Point in Antigua are still in processing.
