The Fuerteventura Protagonista project, driven by the Cabildo and the University of La Laguna, held a meeting in Puerto del Rosario with representatives from six municipalities to advance the dynamisation of the Citizen Participation Regulation and the development of community nodes.
The Councillor for Citizen Participation of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Víctor Alonso Falcón, led a working meeting on July 14 in Puerto del Rosario with the councillors from the area of six municipalities in Fuerteventura. The aim: to give a new boost to the Fuerteventura Protagonista project, which seeks to consolidate a stable collaboration network among the public administrations of the island.
Citizen Participation Regulation and community nodes
During the meeting, the dynamisation of the Cabildo's Citizen Participation Regulation was discussed as a tool to strengthen a shared participatory culture. Additionally, the development of community nodes was explored, which are flexible spaces for interaction between administrations, technicians, citizens, and social fabric, adapted to the reality of each municipality.
The project also includes technical support for the municipalities and the associative fabric to strengthen their capacities in participatory processes. Training and the Community Volunteering Network will continue to be key pillars, as explained by sources from the Cabildo.
Six municipalities, one common goal
The meeting was attended by the Councillors for Citizen Participation from Tuineje, Pedro Rodríguez; Pájara, Nuria Moaré Crespón; Antigua, Victoria Cerdeña González; and Puerto del Rosario, Jenifer Pérez. The municipalities of La Oliva and Betancuria could not attend due to scheduling conflicts, but their involvement in the process continues, as highlighted by Councillor Falcón.
From the University of La Laguna and its General Foundation, the academic director Vicente Zapata Hernández, technical coordinator Alexis Mesa Marrero, and technicians María Candelaria Siverio Grillo and Carolina Medina Mañas participated. The academic team emphasised the importance of these spaces for sharing learning and building cooperative responses.
Next steps: Tuineje in September
The next working meeting will be held in the second half of September in the municipality of Tuineje, organised by its Town Hall. There, the community nodes in each of the six municipalities will be defined, and the training catalogue for the remainder of 2026 will be finalised, continuing the one already initiated under the Fuerteventura Protagonista framework.
The project will travel to different localities on the island to closely understand the diversity of socio-territorial realities. The residents of Fuerteventura will benefit from a more structured and closer citizen participation, with stable dialogue spaces and continuous training for associations and volunteers.
