The Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium presented new equipment on Tuesday at the Agüimes Fairgrounds, including two urban fire trucks, extinguishing robots, and drones for water rescue, with an investment that also includes training for firefighters.
The Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium announced on Tuesday at the Agüimes Fairgrounds the new equipment and vehicles that will enhance the emergency response capacity across the island. The event was attended by the President of the Gran Canaria Cabildo, Antonio Morales Méndez; the President of the Consortium, Pedro Francisco Justo Brito; and the Mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, among other authorities and emergency officials.
Among the resources presented are two urban fire trucks, extinguishing robots, drones specifically for water rescue, tactical trailers, battery-operated fans, extinguishing blankets for electric vehicles, extinguishing kits for pick-up trucks, and specialized tools. These teams, as explained by the officials, are designed to tackle new intervention scenarios, such as fires in electric vehicles or rescues along the coast.
Antonio Morales emphasized during his speech that “today we take another step so that the professionals of the Consortium can carry out their work more effectively wherever an emergency occurs.” The island president highlighted that the commitment to continuous improvement of public service and strengthening the response capacity to any type of emergency is a priority for the institution.
The investment made is not limited to the acquisition of equipment, but includes a comprehensive training program for personnel. The aim is for the incorporation of new technologies to be accompanied by ongoing training for intervention teams, thus ensuring optimal use of resources.
The President of the Consortium, Pedro Francisco Justo Brito, explained that these additions respond to the strategy of renewal and modernization promoted by the organization. “We want to equip fire stations with more efficient, safe, and adapted means for new intervention scenarios,” he stated.
The Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium continues to develop a progressive modernization process of its material and operational resources. The goal, as indicated, is to provide an increasingly rapid, effective, and safe response to the public, reinforcing the protection of the member municipalities and adapting to the new needs posed by emergencies.
The presentation took place at the Agüimes Fairgrounds, a space that usually hosts events of this kind. There, attendees were able to see the new vehicles and equipment up close, as well as learn about their technical specifications.
The new resources also include extinguishing blankets for electric vehicles, a resource that is increasingly necessary given the rise in this type of automobile. The drones for water rescue will allow interventions on beaches and coastal areas that are difficult to access, improving the safety of both rescue teams and affected individuals.
The Mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, positively assessed the investment and highlighted the importance of municipalities having a modern and well-equipped emergency service. “The safety of our residents largely depends on professionals having the best means,” he stated.
The Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium groups together most of the municipalities on the island, except for the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which has its own service. The renewal of the fleet and equipment is part of a multi-year plan that aims to continue incorporating new technologies in the coming years.
The total investment was not detailed at the event, but sources from the Consortium indicated that it is one of the largest made in recent times. Personnel training will take place over the coming months, with specific courses for operating the new equipment.
