Gran Canaria model Ariadne Artiles confesses that her heart always returns to San Agustín, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. There she spent her childhood summers and now runs a complex of eight apartments by the sea.
The Gran Canaria model Ariadne Artiles has walked the most important runways in the world, but her favourite place remains San Agustín beach, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. There, facing the Atlantic Ocean, the model has found her personal refuge and now her business project.
Pura Vida, the business by the sea
Right in front of the beach of her childhood, Artiles opened Pura Vida, a complex of eight apartments on the beachfront. Each one is named after a Canary Island and is decorated with the colours and textures that represent them. The Fuerteventura apartment, for example, is distinguished by its blue tones; the La Palma one, by a more rocky and volcanic style.
The model defines this business as "a dream and a nod to my Islands". With it, she aims to share the calm and slow pace of life in the Canaries, something she values after years of constant travel for work.
"This is where it all began," Artiles often says when referring to San Agustín.
The connection to her homeland is so strong that, despite having lived in Milan, New York, or Paris, she always returns. Now it is her three daughters who build sandcastles on the same shore where she played as a child.
San Agustín, a family-friendly corner in the south of Gran Canaria
San Agustín is a light sandy beach, calm and family-friendly, located in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, which boasts 32 kilometres of coastline and over twenty beaches. Although it is not as well-known as others in the south, for Artiles it holds immeasurable sentimental value.
The model prefers paddle surfing, diving, or simply running along the shore rather than surfing, which she respects. She also enjoys stretching on a mat by the sea and enjoying the Atlantic breeze.
Very close to San Agustín is the Biosphere Reserve of the Maspalomas Dunes, over 400 hectares of golden sand that house a pond, a palm grove, and migratory birds. The 1861 lighthouse, which overlooks the landscape, remains the best place on the island to watch the sunset.
From there, looking out to sea, on one side is the Meloneras promenade, with the aboriginal site of Punta Mujeres and always bustling terraces. On the other side, the dunes empty of people and only birds remain. Following the coast, you will find Playa del Inglés, the small Las Burras, and finally, once again, San Agustín.
