The City Council of Telde has signed the transfer of the surveillance system of the El Goro Business Park, consisting of 38 cameras, four of which have license plate recognition. The system, now operational, aims to enhance security and traffic control in one of the municipality's most important industrial areas.

The mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, and the president of the Urban Conservation Entity of the El Goro Business Park (GOROECO), Ángel Félix Medina, signed the transfer document for the surveillance system this Wednesday. The agreement, which is already in effect, means that the council takes over the management of the 38 cameras installed at the main accesses of the industrial estate.

A system with OCR technology for reading license plates

Of the 38 cameras, four have OCR technology (optical character recognition) for reading license plates. These have been strategically placed at the entrances and exits of the business park, with the aim of controlling traffic and deterring potential crimes.

Additionally, the system includes communication routers, photovoltaic panels, and a management monitor. All equipment complies with the National Security Scheme (ENS High) and data protection regulations, according to the City Council of Telde.

“This agreement represents a step forward in modernising the control and security systems of the municipality,” highlighted Mayor Juan Antonio Peña.

Public-private collaboration for security

The system was installed by GOROECO, which now transfers its management to the City Council of Telde. However, the business entity will continue to be responsible for maintenance and technical support during the period established in the agreement. This public-private collaboration is, according to Peña, an example of how “joint work with the business fabric allows for the development of projects that benefit both economic activity and the general interest.”

The El Goro Business Park is one of the most important logistics and industrial areas in Telde, with hundreds of companies and a constant flow of heavy vehicles. The installation of these cameras responds to a long-standing demand from the park's business owners, who requested more security measures in light of the increase in thefts and traffic issues.

“The incorporation of this technological system will help improve traffic management, enhance security in the business environment, and continue advancing in the smart city model,” added Peña.

One step closer to a smart city

With this action, Telde takes another step in its smart city strategy. The mayor recalled that the municipality has already implemented other surveillance systems in public spaces and that collaboration with the private sector is key to continuing to modernise services.

For the residents and workers of the industrial estate, the measure represents a greater sense of security and more effective control of heavy traffic, which often causes congestion and parking problems in the area. Furthermore, the OCR cameras will allow for the identification of stolen vehicles or those involved in crimes, which could reduce the incidence of thefts in the business park.

The system is now fully operational, and the City Council of Telde expects that the first results in terms of security and traffic control can be evaluated in the coming months. Meanwhile, the park's business owners have expressed their satisfaction with a measure they have been requesting for years.
