The local committee of Iniciativa por La Gomera in Valle Gran Rey warns about the state of the interior paths of Guadá, with dirt, fallen walls, and lack of safety.
The interior paths connecting the areas of Guadá, in Valle Gran Rey, are in a critical situation. This has been reported by Iniciativa por La Gomera (IxLG), which has gathered complaints from residents about the buildup of dirt, the unremoved plant debris, and the lack of safety following the damage caused by storm Therese.
The councillor and spokesperson for IxLG, Carlos Hernández, has pointed out that the condition of these roads is due to the neglect by the Valle Gran Rey Town Hall and the Insular Council. According to Hernández, almost all of Guadá is within the Rural Park of Valle Gran Rey, a protected area that, he claims, lacks management.
A problem of safety and accessibility
Residents have conveyed to IxLG that the paths are essential for their daily lives, as they act as streets in an area where homes are dispersed. However, after storm Therese, several walls fell onto the paths and have yet to be removed, posing a risk.
Hernández has insisted that it is urgent to install protective railings in the most exposed sections, as many paths run through areas of considerable height. "Here in Guadá, it is incomprehensible that there is no interest in placing something as basic as a railing," he stated.
Escape routes in emergencies
IxLG reminds that these paths are not only for everyday use but can also serve as evacuation routes in case of forest fires or other emergencies. The lack of maintenance compromises the safety of residents.
"The interior paths of Guadá deserve that the Town Hall works on their proper maintenance, both in terms of safety and cleanliness, as they are fundamental elements in the daily lives of those who live here," Hernández concluded.
IxLG demands that the municipal government act immediately to clear the paths and repair the structural damages, as well as to install the necessary safety measures. Residents, for their part, fear that the situation will worsen with the upcoming rains.
