The Cabildo of La Palma has extended the bidding deadline for the rehabilitation works of the LP-213 road in the El Remo section until August 11, where a coastal protection seawall will be constructed to curb wave erosion.
The Cabildo of La Palma is keeping the bidding process open for the rehabilitation of the LP-213 road, in the section connecting Puerto Naos with the population centre of El Remo, in the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane. Companies interested in carrying out the work have until August 11 to submit their bids, as reported by the island's first Corporation in a press release.
The action, which consists of constructing a coastal protection seawall along the edge of the road, responds to a situation of progressive deterioration caused by wave action, the natural dynamics of the coast, and adverse weather conditions affecting this coastal area. The island president, Sergio Rodríguez, has pointed out that these factors have not only damaged the physical structure of the road but have also increased the risk of collapse in some sections.
The island's Infrastructure Councillor, Darwin Rodríguez, has emphasised the urgency of the intervention, as the waves have completely washed away the left lane in the affected section. This has prevented the residents of El Remo from accessing their properties normally, creating a critical situation for the community. “These improvements are essential for the proper functioning of the community in their daily lives,” Rodríguez defended.
The mayor of Los Llanos de Aridane, Javier Llamas, highlighted the inter-administrative collaboration between the Cabildo, the General Directorate of Coasts of the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Town Hall to unblock a “historic demand” from the residents of El Remo. “We are working hand in hand to protect our coastline and improve the daily lives of our citizens,” Llamas added.
The construction of the seawall will help to halt the advance of erosion, stabilise the terrain, and preserve the integrity of the road. Furthermore, the action will be carried out while contributing to the conservation of the coastline, respecting the natural characteristics of the area, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the infrastructure.
Interested companies can consult all the information and submit their applications through the Public Sector Contracting Platform. The bidding period, which could initially have been shorter, has been extended to provide more options for potential contractors.
The LP-213 road is a key route for connecting the west coast of La Palma, especially for residents of El Remo, a small coastal locality in the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane.
