The women's Division of Honour Gold team finalises the signing of the Angolan international goalkeeper, who arrives after her time in Portuguese and Turkish handball.
CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife continues to shape its squad for the 2026/2027 season. The club, which will compete once again in the Women's Division of Honour Gold, announced on Thursday the signing of goalkeeper Audília Carlos, a player with experience in European competitions who arrives to strengthen the goal for the Lanzarote team.
Audília Josina Cafumo Carlos, 28 years old and 1.80 metres tall, was born in Maianga (Angola) and holds dual Angolan and Congolese nationality. The goalkeeper expressed her excitement about this new chapter: "I am very happy to be part of a club with tradition and an ambitious project. I want to give my best, continue evolving as an athlete, and help the team achieve its goals," she stated at the official presentation.
The player chose San José Obrero, the entity managing the team, for "the seriousness of the project, the trust the club placed in me, and the opportunity to continue growing in a competitive league." Defensively, Carlos stands out for the security she conveys in goal and her good connection with the defensive line, aspects that will be key for the team coached by the club's sports management.
Audília Carlos's career began in Angola, where she trained with Petro de Luanda and ASA. In the 2020/2021 season, she made the leap to European handball by signing with SL Benfica in Portugal, where she stayed for three seasons. After a brief spell with ADA de Sao Pedro do Sul in the 2023/2024 season, she returned to Benfica the following season. Last season, she played for Odunpazari SK in the Turkish Super League, which has allowed her to gain experience in different leagues and continental competitions.
With SL Benfica, she competed in the EHF European League, while with ADA de Sao Pedro do Sul, she participated in the EHF European Cup. This international experience makes her a reliable reinforcement for the Lanzarote team, which aims to establish itself in the second tier of Spanish women's handball.
"I am a dedicated, competitive player committed to the team," the goalkeeper stated, who has already addressed the club's fans, based in the Titerroy neighbourhood: "I will always give my all, fight for every ball, and work hard."
Audília Carlos becomes the eighth signing of CICAR Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife for the 2026/2027 season. Before her, the lateral players Ana Luisa Da Silva, Nathália Baliána, and Gema Soler; the wingers Valentina Learreta and Uxía Fernández; the centre Silvia Gil; and the pivot Fátima Ndiaye have joined. The squad is thus taking shape to face a campaign where the objective will be survival and, why not, to fight for higher positions.
The club, which has a solid fan base in Lanzarote, hopes that Audília Carlos's experience and competitive character will help improve upon last season's results. Pre-season will begin in the coming weeks, with an eye on the league start, scheduled for September.
The management of San José Obrero continues to work on the final configuration of the team, although the arrival of the Angolan goalkeeper represents an important step in finalising the squad. Meanwhile, the fans eagerly await the debut of the new goalkeeper at the Titerroy pavilion.
