The Lanzarote and La Graciosa Consortium for Security, Emergencies, Rescue, Prevention and Fire Extinction has attended to 792 services in the first six months of 2026, a 4.34% increase compared to the previous year. Arrecife concentrated 41% of the actions.
The Lanzarote and La Graciosa Consortium for Security, Emergencies, Rescue, Prevention and Fire Extinction has recorded a total of 792 interventions during the first half of 2026, representing an increase of 4.34% compared to the 759 actions in the same period the previous year. This was announced by the president of the organisation, Francisco J. Aparicio, who highlighted the "permanent operability" of the personnel and the trust of the public in the service.
Technical assistance has been the most frequent type of intervention, with 195 services, accounting for 25% of the total. This is followed by fire extinguishing efforts, with 178 actions (22%), and rescues, with 79 interventions. Of these, 29 were related to animals and 25 to hikers, mainly located in the municipalities of Yaiza and Tinajo.
The balance also includes 74 preventive patrols, 52 interventions in traffic accidents, and 41 home openings. In the area of water rescue, two drowning deaths have been recorded during the semester.
Arrecife, the municipality with the most interventions
By municipality, Arrecife has concentrated the highest number of actions, with 327 services, 41% of the total on the island. This is followed by Yaiza (111), Teguise (104), Tías (82), San Bartolomé (70), and Haría and Tinajo, with 36 each. In La Graciosa, the Consortium's team intervened 26 times.
The Central Park of Arrecife took on the largest operational load, with 584 services, while the South Park attended to 182 emergencies.
Container fires decrease by 40.5%
One of the most positive figures from the report is the reduction in container fires. During the first half of 2026, 22 interventions of this type were recorded, compared to 37 in the same period of 2025, representing a decrease of 40.5%. The figure also improves compared to 2024, when there were 51 container fires.
In contrast, vehicle fires increased slightly to 35 cases, five more than the previous year. Of these, 17 occurred in Arrecife.
Aparicio has positively assessed the data, which reflect "the permanent operability of our firefighters and the trust that the public places in this service 24 hours a day." The Consortium continues to work to improve prevention and response to emergencies on the island.
