The Ministry of Tourism and Employment, through Gesprotur, has launched a quantitative study to analyse the importance of bars, cafés, and restaurants in the tourist offer of the archipelago.

The public company Management of Tourist Projects of the Canary Islands (Gesprotur), dependent on the Ministry of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, has initiated a quantitative survey aimed at the restaurant sector across the eight islands. The goal is to measure the real weight of bars, cafés, and restaurants within tourism activity, identify their needs, and guide future public policies.

The study is currently in its initial phase, focused on data collection through an online questionnaire that can be completed by businesses and professionals in the sector. The initiative aims to demonstrate the relevance of the restaurant industry as a key element of the Canary Islands' tourist offer, beyond its complementary role.

According to the Ministry, the survey will allow for the analysis of the evolution of aspects such as business structure, employment qualifications, trends in digital transformation, sustainability, and sector profitability. The results will help define actions and support lines that are more aligned with the reality of the islands.

The Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León, has highlighted that "the restaurant sector is a fundamental pillar for the quality, competitiveness, and dynamism of the tourist economy of the archipelago. With this study, we seek to obtain a rigorous diagnosis that allows us to design precise actions, respond to the needs of professionals, and move towards a sustainable and excellent gastronomic model".

For his part, the CEO of Gesprotur, Ignacio Solana, pointed out that "we are developing an exhaustive fieldwork to map the sector throughout the archipelago. The collaboration and participation of businesses, establishment owners, and restaurant professionals is essential to have a representative and reliable sample that clearly identifies the challenges and opportunities of the restaurant industry in the Canary Islands".

The survey can be completed digitally through various channels, and the Ministry has called for the participation of all establishments in the islands to achieve an accurate picture of the sector. The deadline for responses is open, although no closing date has been specified.

This initiative is part of the regional government's efforts to improve the competitiveness of the Canary Islands as a tourist destination, where gastronomy plays an increasingly relevant role. The data obtained will allow, according to sources from the Ministry, the design of more effective public policies tailored to the real needs of restaurant professionals.

For business owners in the sector, this survey represents an opportunity to convey their concerns directly to the administration. The Ministry reminds that participation is voluntary but very valuable for obtaining representative conclusions.

Interested parties can access the questionnaire through the link provided by Gesprotur on its website. It is recommended to complete it with updated data so that the diagnosis reflects the actual situation of the sector on each island.
