The Reggae Can Festival XII will kick off its programme on August 6 with the celebration of a new edition of the Reggae Can Dub Party, an intense day dedicated to Sound System culture that will turn Bajamar, in La Laguna, into the meeting point for reggae and dub before the two main days of the festival, which will take place on August 7 and 8 in Punta del Hidalgo.
Following the excellent reception of its first edition, the Reggae Can Dub Party returns as the official opening of the International Reggae Festival of the Canary Islands and reaffirms the festival's commitment to expanding its programme and bringing one of the most influential cultural expressions in the history of reggae closer to the public. For the first time in its twelve editions, the festival dedicates a full day to honouring Sound System culture, the origin of reggae's dissemination from the streets of Kingston, Jamaica, and one of the fundamental pillars upon which dub culture has developed worldwide.
More than just a concert, the Reggae Can Dub Party will be a gathering where music, vinyl culture, musical selection, and the Sound System experience will share the spotlight with a participatory activity open to all audiences. The line-up will be headlined by Lasai, one of the most recognised voices of reggae in Spain, with a solid international career that has taken him to some of the main festivals in Spain and Europe. His presence at the Dub Party reinforces the festival's international character and the exchange between the Canary scene and other European references.
Joining him will be Rootikal Bass Sound System, one of the most representative projects of Sound System culture in the Canary Islands, responsible for providing the sound that will accompany the entire day and a key piece in recreating the essence of this Jamaican tradition. The line-up will also feature Narfyah, a producer and composer from Tenerife belonging to a new generation of artists who are renewing reggae and dub from the Canary Islands; Warrior E, a selector and singer from Tenerife; Sister Souto, who will debut at the Dub Party with a selection inspired by roots reggae and dub; and B Side Room, a collective dedicated for years to promoting dub culture in the Canary Islands through sessions built around vinyl, musical selection, and the microphone.
The programme will include the participatory workshop ‘The Art of Balance’, an open proposal for all audiences that will combine stilts, clowning, and hula hoop, inviting children, young people, and adults to discover balance, movement, and creativity through play. The celebration of the Reggae Can Dub Party will mark the beginning of an intense weekend that will continue with the two main days of the International Reggae Festival of the Canary Islands on August 7 and 8 at the Punta del Hidalgo Football Field.
The festival will feature a top-notch line-up with Mo'Kalamity, Green Valley, General Levy, Dactah Chando, Isa Izquierdo, Sumerr, Unruly Youth, Javadub, and Warrior E, in addition to a parallel programme of cultural and family activities. Under the slogan ‘Caring for the Nest’, the festival will once again commit to a model that cares for the environment, people, and the development of music made in the Canary Islands, incorporating spaces like Reggae Can Lab, dedicated to training, experimentation, and musical creation, alongside proposals aimed at the whole family.
With free entry until full capacity is reached, the Reggae Can Festival consolidates itself as one of the main reggae events in Spain and a cultural reference within the summer calendar of the Canary Islands. The celebration of the Reggae Can Dub Party, as the official opening of the festival, is made possible thanks to the support of the La Laguna City Council, through the departments of Festivals, Culture, and Tourism, as well as the autonomous agencies for Sports and Musical Activities. The initiative is also supported by the Canary Islands, through Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias, the Canary Institute of Cultural Development (ICDC), and the Tenerife Cabildo.
