The political formation Contigo La Palma, chaired by Javier Gutiérrez Taño, held a meeting in Santa Cruz de La Palma to advance in defining its municipal teams for the local and island elections in May 2027.
Contigo La Palma, the political organisation led by Javier Gutiérrez Taño, has kicked off the configuration of its electoral lists for the upcoming local and island elections. The party held a general meeting on Saturday, July 25, in Santa Cruz de La Palma, as reported by the organisation in a statement.
The meeting, which took place in a venue on Calle Real in the capital of La Palma, saw a large turnout of members and supporters. The aim, as explained by Gutiérrez Taño, was to “advance in the definition of municipal teams while also clarifying the organic, organisational, political, promotional tasks and leadership definitions for the 14 municipalities of La Palma.”
The roadmap of Contigo La Palma is activated with an eye on Sunday, May 23, 2027, the date when local and island elections are scheduled across Spain, unless an early election occurs. On that same day, regional elections would also be held.
Javier Gutiérrez Taño emphasised that the formation aims to present lists in all the municipalities of the island, as well as in the Insular Cabildo. “There is a consistent, alternative and exciting political project for La Palma; there is a diverse group, full of credibility and experience, and there is enthusiasm, a lot of enthusiasm with talent,” stated the party president.
In his speech, Gutiérrez Taño criticised the traditional parties on the island –Coalición Canaria, Partido Popular and PSOE– accusing them of lacking “aptitude and coherence.” In contrast, he said, Contigo La Palma seeks “new opportunities and new paths for the development and progress of the island.”
The leader insisted that the goal is to “work towards the best possible future for La Palma, but truly: one that can be seen and felt through general advances in citizen well-being, always from transparency and participation of the people, based on consensuses supported by collective improvement.”
Contigo La Palma officially emerged as an organisation in early 2026. Since then, its activity has focused on building a political alternative that, according to its leaders, can generate real change on the island. “We are on time,” Gutiérrez Taño optimistically reminded.
The meeting on Saturday marks the beginning of a process that will be defined in the coming months. The formation plans to continue holding meetings in each municipality to define the teams and profiles that will lead the candidacies. The 2027 electoral appointment presents itself as the first major test for this young organisation.
For the residents of La Palma, the emergence of Contigo La Palma represents a new political option in a landscape traditionally dominated by three forces. The party is confident that its message of transparency and participation will resonate with a citizenry that, they claim, demands change.
In the near future, the formation will announce the dates for the municipal assemblies where the lists will be shaped. Meanwhile, Gutiérrez Taño and his team continue to work on the organisational structure and in recruiting new members.
