Pájara removes three playgrounds in Costa Calma due to safety concerns on private land

The Pájara Town Hall has begun dismantling three playgrounds in Costa Calma, located on Las Gangas, Terife and Punta Pesebre streets, as they are situated on private land and the maintenance cannot be ensured.

The Pájara Town Hall has initiated the dismantling of three public playgrounds in Costa Calma, after confirming that it could not guarantee their safety as they are located on privately owned plots. The affected facilities are on Las Gangas, Terife and Punta Pesebre streets.

The decision, made by the Town Hall, is due to the inability to renew the deteriorated play equipment or to undertake the necessary maintenance, as the Town Hall does not have the authority to intervene on private land. This was explained by the Councillor for Urbanism and First Deputy Mayor, Alexis Alonso, who stated that "the only responsible decision was to proceed with their removal to avoid any risk to users."

The Mayor of Pájara, Alejandro Jorge, emphasised that "for the governing group it is essential to ensure the protection and well-being of the residents of the municipality, so it is necessary to remove these spaces to assess new quality infrastructures that meet the necessary conditions."

The Town Hall is already working on alternatives to ensure that Costa Calma has children's play areas again. The condition is that future facilities are located on municipal land or, if they remain on private plots, there is an agreement that allows the Town Hall to install, preserve, and maintain them with all safety guarantees.

Jorge recalled that a playground in Costa Calma was recently completely renovated and that the goal is to continue improving the various municipal facilities. The removal of these playgrounds is solely based on safety and responsibility criteria in the management of public use spaces.

Local residents have expressed concern over the lack of these spaces for young children. The Town Hall is asking for patience while the best solutions are being studied. No timeline has been set for the installation of new playgrounds.

This action directly affects families who used these parks, especially in a tourist area like Costa Calma, where the demand for children's leisure activities is high. The Town Hall assures that it will prioritise the search for suitable locations to restore the service as soon as possible.
