The Dimbe association is organising a week of intercultural activities from July 22 to 25 with the support of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the City Council of Puerto del Rosario.
The Sociocultural Association of Mauritanian Women Dimbe has prepared a programme that kicks off on July 22 with the conference 'Between Two Shores: Mauritania and the Canary Islands, a Bridge of Coexistence, Integration and Cooperation'. This inaugural event will address the historical, social and environmental links between both territories, according to the organisers.
Conferences and Dialogue Tables for Integration
During the four days, citizens will be able to attend conferences, discussions and dialogue tables that will focus on cooperation between the Canary Islands and Africa, the defence of human rights, and women's leadership. The eradication of female genital mutilation, a topic of particular sensitivity in the community, will also be addressed.
The programme includes a space dedicated to youth and equal opportunities, aiming to raise awareness about building a more inclusive society. Activities will take place in various locations in Puerto del Rosario, although the detailed programme has not yet been made public.
Sport and Gastronomy as Cultural Bridges
One of the highlights of the week will be the meeting between Canarian wrestlers and traditional Senegalese wrestlers, a symbol of dialogue between cultures through sport. The exhibition is scheduled for the closing day, July 25, and promises to be an exciting moment for attendees.
Gastronomy will also take centre stage with an intercultural culinary space that will showcase the richness of the Canary Islands and various African countries. Residents of Puerto del Rosario will be able to taste typical dishes and learn firsthand about the culinary traditions of the participating communities.
The Dimbe Intercultural Week is supported by the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, the City Council of Puerto del Rosario, and the entity Cajamar. The organising association expects high participation, as the event has established itself as an annual gathering to promote coexistence and respect for diversity on the island.
For those wishing to attend, all activities are free and open to the public. No prior registration is required, although it is recommended to arrive early to secure a place in the most popular conferences and workshops. The event will take place from July 22 to 25 in Puerto del Rosario, with schedules to be published soon on the official channels of the Cabildo and the City Council.
