The duo Camela put the finishing touch to the 544th Santiago de Gáldar Festivities with a concert that gathered over 3,000 people at the Recinto Cultural de La Quinta.
More than 3,000 people packed the Recinto Cultural de La Quinta in Gáldar to bid farewell to the 544th Santiago de Gáldar Festivities with a concert by the legendary duo Camela. The performance, part of their '+ de 30' tour, closed a month of celebrations that included over a hundred events.
The first deputy mayor and councillor for Culture and Festivities of the Gáldar City Council, Julio Mateo Castillo, highlighted the atmosphere and participation: 'This atmosphere, this joy, this participation from both the residents of Gáldar and numerous people who have come from the rest of the island to enjoy this concert are examples of what we have experienced throughout this month in our streets.'
Camela, formed by Dioni and Ángeles, had already performed in Gáldar in 2019, when the Santiago square was packed. This time, the duo once again captivated the audience from the first chords with hits like 'Sueños Inalcanzables' and 'Nunca debí enamorarme', sung along by the thousands of attendees.
The concert included more current songs such as 'Nunca te he olvidado' and 'Tu mirada', and culminated with 'Cuando zarpa el amor'. The audience, fully engaged, sang along to every chorus, especially 'Sueño contigo', which made the venue vibrate.
Mateo Castillo emphasised the importance of maintaining traditions: 'The tradition among the neighbours, which is preserved from generation to generation, and the word of mouth that makes us a reference municipality for visitors attracted by the uniqueness of our festivities is what allows us to keep growing.'
The festivities, which are already looking towards the Holy Year of 2027, included large events such as the Dance and Zambra of the Giants and Fire Horses, the Parade of Floats, the Romería, and the Battle of Flowers. There was also space for music with the return of El Vega Life, the concert by Merche, and the new Gáldar Urban Fest, aimed at a young audience.
On Sunday, in addition to the concert, children's activities were held such as the Children's Play Park, with bouncy castles and workshops, and the show 'Karkocha', which gathered hundreds of children in the Plaza de Santiago. The group Hierba Buena provided the musical finale in the square, and the municipal corporation, led by Mayor Teodoro Sosa, participated in the traditional popular lunch.
Mateo Castillo concluded: 'We are very grateful for the response to this year's festivities, and we are convinced that the next edition, coinciding with the Holy Year of 2027, will bring us even more satisfaction.'
