The IMD has completed the renovation of the basketball court in El Rincón, one of the most used outdoor facilities in the city.
The Municipal Institute for the Promotion of Physical Activity and Sport (IMD) of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has finished renovating the basketball court located in the El Rincón Coastal Park. The work involved the complete repainting of the playing surface with a new high-resistance coating, designed to withstand continuous use and the area's weather conditions.
The Councillor for Sports and Youth, Carla Campoamor, explained that the intervention responds to the need to renew the surface due to the intense use of the space. In addition to sports practice, the court frequently hosts cultural, social, and leisure activities, making this improvement essential.
“This action allows us to restore a facility that is heavily used by local residents, improving the conditions for sports practice and providing a higher quality and safer space for all who use it,” Campoamor stated.
The renovation of the court is part of a broader plan to improve the sports facilities at the El Rincón Coastal Park. In recent months, the City Council has built a 375-square-metre calisthenics park, with an investment of over 100,000 euros, and has launched a specialised ramp for surfskate practice. Maintenance has also been carried out on the climbing wall, with the replacement of its holds.
Campoamor highlighted that these actions “are part of the municipal commitment to maintain and modernise the city's sports facilities, expanding the availability of spaces for physical activity and promoting healthy lifestyle habits among citizens.”
The basketball court in El Rincón is one of the most used outdoor sports facilities in the capital of Gran Canaria. Its renovation will extend its lifespan and provide better service to users. With these improvements, the City Council aims to encourage outdoor physical activity and establish the Coastal Park as a reference space for sports and leisure.
