The Lanzarote municipality of Tinajo will celebrate the patron saint festivities in honour of San Roque from August 6 to 21. The programme includes over 50 cultural, sporting, and religious activities.
The Tinajo Town Hall has unveiled the complete programme for the San Roque Festival 2026, which will take place from August 6 to 21. The Department of Festivities has designed a calendar with more than fifty proposals for all audiences, combining tradition, music, sport, and religious events.
The celebrations will kick off on Thursday, August 6, with the reading of the proclamation by Benedicto Cabrera Tejera, a specialist in Agriculture and Pests. Following the proclamation, timple player Alexis Lemes, guitarist Adrián Níz, and soloist Almudena Hernández will perform, and the night will conclude with a concert by Grupo Alegranza at the ventorillo in the Plaza de San Roque.
One of the highlights will arrive on Saturday, August 8, with the traditional Harvest Pilgrimage, which will depart from Avenida de los Volcanes number 11 to the Plaza de San Roque. The pilgrimage will be enlivened by the Parranda Pal Porrón and will include the traditional grape stomping. At 7:30 PM, a Eucharist will be celebrated, followed by performances from the parrandas Los Labradores, Pal Porrón, Los Gurfines Son Del Puerto, Aldaba, and Son de Mar, which will continue until dawn.
Sunday, August 16, the feast day of San Roque, will be the main day. At 6:00 PM, a solemn Eucharist and procession will take place, presided over by Cristóbal Déniz Hernández, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese. The procession will be accompanied by the Tinajo Music School and the Peña de San Roque band. The day will conclude with performances by Acatife and comedian Kike Pérez at the Social Hall of Tinajo.
Music will play a significant role in the programme. On Monday, August 10, at 8:30 PM, the musical “Ready For The Ride” will be performed by The Infinity Dream Events at the Social Hall. On Wednesday, August 12, the Municipal Theatre will host the play “El apagón”. On Thursday, August 13, the polka battle will take place, and on Friday, August 14, K-NARIAS and Toti Sanz will perform. On Saturday, August 15, the XXV AMC Timbayba Festival “40 years in the sun” will take place at the Social Hall at 8:30 PM.
Children will have access to workshops and inflatable bouncy castles, as well as a Children’s Playback. For adults, workshops on embroidery, a dessert and liqueur contest, macramé, and self-makeup will be organised. Additionally, on Saturday, August 8, a veterans' match will be held between the Club Deportivo Tinajo and Amigos Hermanos Morales against the Association of Former Players of UD Lanzarote.
Sport will also have its space with the regrouping of the XXVIII Rallye Isla de los Volcanes, which will concentrate in the Plaza de San Roque on Saturday, August 8. The following day, Sunday, August 9, a percussion workshop and the Children’s Playback will be held. On Friday, August 14, the initiative “Flavours of Tinajo” returns, offering gastronomic tastings.
The Councillor for Festivities, Jonatan Pérez Olivero, has invited residents and visitors to enjoy these much-anticipated festivities, highlighting the variety of the programme. For his part, the mayor, Jesús Machín, expressed his wish for everyone to participate in the celebrations and wished the residents of Tinajo happy festivities, concluding with a “Viva San Roque”.
Registrations for workshops with limited spaces, such as the embroidery workshop, can be made at the Tinajo Town Hall. Most activities are free and will take place in the Plaza de San Roque, the Social Hall, and the Municipal Theatre.
