The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will maintain the Temporary Collection Points (PAT) in August, which will cover the five districts with 105 stops to facilitate the disposal of bulky waste and domestic debris.
The City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, through the Municipal Cleaning Service, has announced that the Temporary Collection Points (PAT) will make a total of 105 stops during the month of August in the five districts of the Gran Canaria capital. This itinerant service, which operates from Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 17:00, aims to facilitate residents' management of bulky waste and debris from small domestic works, thus preventing their abandonment on public roads.
The Councillor for Urban Hygiene and Carnival, Héctor Alemán, has highlighted that the PATs are a fundamental tool to offer a close and convenient alternative to citizens. “Community collaboration is key to maintaining a cleaner city and caring for public space, so we encourage the use of this free service distributed across the five districts,” Alemán stated.
At these points, residents can deposit furniture and household items, mattresses and bed bases, small and large appliances, electronic and computer devices, as well as pieces of wood and metal. Clean debris from small domestic works is also accepted, with a limit of five bags of 15 kilos each. Hazardous waste, tyres, plant remains, paints, oils, glass, and other materials requiring specific treatment are not accepted.
The district schedule includes stops in neighbourhoods such as San Francisco, Triana, Arenales, Siete Palmas, Escaleritas, Schamann, and Tamaraceite, among others. In the Central District, the San Francisco point will be on Monday 3rd at Gobernador Marín Acuña street with Juan Sarazá Ortiz, while on Tuesday 4th it will be located in San Nicolás, at Real del Castillo street, 112. The Ciudad Alta District will start on Monday 3rd in Siete Palmas, at Avenida Pintor Felo Monzón with Las Borreras, and will continue on Tuesday 4th in Escaleritas, at Juan Ramón Jiménez street, 41.
In the Isleta-Puerto-Guanarteme District, on Monday 3rd the PAT will be in La Isleta, at Juan Manuel Díaz Rodríguez street, 28, and on Tuesday 4th in El Confital, at Avenida de la Playa de Las Canteras, 1. The Vegueta-Cono Sur-Tafira District will begin on Monday 3rd in Vegueta, at Pelayo street, 3, and on Tuesday 4th in San José, at Juan de Quesada street, 10. Meanwhile, the Tamaraceite-San Lorenzo-Tenoya District will start on Monday 3rd in Tamaraceite, at Doctor Juan de Padilla street, 12, and on Tuesday 4th in San Lorenzo, at Avenida de la Feria, 1.
The service will continue throughout the month, with stops each day in different neighbourhoods, so that all districts have at least one collection point per week. Residents can check the full schedule on the municipal website, where the exact locations and times are also detailed.
This initiative aims to reduce the abandonment of waste on public roads, a recurring problem in many cities. According to data from the City Council, during the past month of July, the PATs collected more than 150 tonnes of bulky waste, demonstrating the service's usefulness to the public.
The hours from 11:00 to 17:00 allow residents to attend in the morning or afternoon, avoiding the hottest hours in August. The service is free and does not require prior appointment, although it is recommended to check the schedule to know the exact day and location of each stop.
