The Gáldar City Council and its dependent entities have obtained a score of 10 in the Canary Islands Transparency Index for 2025, an achievement that consolidates five years of outstanding performance.
The municipality of Gáldar, in Gran Canaria, has reached excellence in the Canary Islands Transparency Index (ITCanarias) corresponding to the 2025 evaluation. Both the City Council and its dependent entities —Galobra, the Municipal Institute of Drug Addiction, and the Canary Foundation City of Gáldar— have achieved the highest score, a 10, for the first time in the history of the indicator.
The evaluation, conducted by the Commissioner for Transparency and Access to Public Information of the Canary Islands, which is under the Parliament of the Canary Islands, has been measuring the degree of compliance of public administrations in terms of active publicity since 2016. This result places Gáldar among the benchmark administrations in the Archipelago and represents a further advance in the City Council's commitment to open management and service to the citizens.
The Mayor of Gáldar, Teodoro Sosa, highlighted that achieving the highest score for the first time in the City Council and all dependent entities is the best reflection of the serious and constant work carried out by all municipal areas. “Transparency is much more than a legal requirement; it is a way of understanding public management based on accountability to the citizens,” he stated.
For his part, the Councillor for Transparency, Ulises Miranda Guerra, thanked the involvement of all municipal departments and particularly emphasized the coordination of the Electronic Administration area in gathering documentation from the various services of the City Council and the work carried out by the Councillor's office to coordinate the entire self-evaluation process.
He also extended his recognition to the dependent entities, congratulating the president of Galobra, Idaira Mateos, and its manager, María Mendoza, as well as Councillor Ana Teresa Mendoza and the coordinator of the Municipal Institute of Drug Addiction, Casilda Hernández García, for their work, along with the Canary Foundation City of Gáldar.
This result consolidates a trajectory of five consecutive years with an average outstanding score in this indicator. For the residents of Gáldar, this rating guarantees that the management of public resources is carried out with criteria of openness and citizen control, facilitating access to information on contracts, budgets, or municipal decisions.
The Gáldar City Council thus becomes a benchmark for transparency in the Canary Islands, a goal it has pursued for years and which is now rewarded with the highest score. The evaluation of ITCanarias analyzes aspects such as institutional information, planning, contracts, grants, or the remuneration of public officials.
For the government team, this achievement is the result of coordinated work among all municipal areas and dependent entities, which have adapted to the demanding criteria of the Commissioner for Transparency.
