The Department of Physical Activity and Sports of Telde has awarded the supply of nets, corner flags and other equipment for municipal facilities, with a budget of 14,932.63 euros. The contract ends more than six years without specific coverage.
The City Council of Telde has formalised the purchase of sports equipment for its municipal facilities, an investment of 14,932.63 euros that covers the acquisition of nets for 11-a-side football, 7-a-side football and handball, as well as corner flags. This measure comes after more than six years without a valid supply contract, which had created shortages in the municipality's sports venues.
A historic demand from local clubs
The councillor for the area, Cristhian Santana Caballero, explained that the action responds to a constant demand from Telde's sports clubs, which had been requesting regulatory equipment for training and competing in optimal conditions for years. “With this award, we are responding to a historic demand,” Santana stated.
The lack of a contract prevented the council from quickly replenishing basic elements such as nets or flags, forcing clubs to sometimes bear the cost of the equipment or to delay matches and training sessions. The new investment will also help avoid possible federative sanctions for non-compliance with regulations.
Safety and operability of the facilities
The awarded material is intended for the municipal football fields and handball courts, which register a high daily influx of athletes, both in official competitions and in grassroots training. Santana highlighted that the priority is “to ensure safe facilities and in adequate conditions” for all users.
The investment also aims to reduce the risk of incidents arising from the use of worn-out or obsolete equipment. The nets on the goals, for example, are essential to prevent balls from flying into passage areas or stands, protecting both players and spectators.
A management that regularises a blocked situation
The councillor emphasised that the award represents “an important step towards dignifying the sports facilities” of Telde, after the service had been “blocked” for more than six years. The Department of Physical Activity and Sports has set as its goal to modernise the entire sports infrastructure of the municipality, placing sports as a priority on the municipal agenda.
Santana announced that the department will continue to work on new improvements: “We will continue to enhance our facilities to offer clubs and athletes the conditions they deserve.” The current investment is just the first step of a broader plan that includes reviewing changing rooms, lighting and accessibility in the coming months.
The clubs of Telde have received the news with satisfaction, although they remind that there are still pending challenges, such as improving the artificial turf fields and extending hours. For now, the new nets and flags are already in the process of installation, and they are expected to be operational for the start of the next season.
