The Cabildo of La Palma has opened the application period for €650,000 in aid to promote the permanent hiring of unemployed individuals on the island. Interested companies and self-employed individuals can submit their applications until 4 September.

The Cabildo of La Palma has launched a grant scheme endowed with €650,000 to incentivise the permanent hiring of unemployed individuals on the island. The measure, driven by the Employment Area led by Susa Armas, aims to facilitate the creation of stable jobs and support the local business fabric, in a context of recovery following the volcanic eruption.

Grants of up to €9,000 per contract

The grants are aimed at companies and self-employed individuals who hire unemployed individuals on a permanent basis. The base aid is €5,000 for each full-time contract, or the proportional part if it is part-time. This amount can be increased to a maximum of €9,000 under certain circumstances.

According to the Cabildo, contracts eligible for the increase are those formalised with individuals with disabilities, university graduates or degree holders working in their field, unemployed individuals registered in the unique registry of those affected by the volcanic eruption, or workers whose workplace is located in a municipality with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants.

The island president, Sergio Rodríguez, has highlighted that the goal is to “continue working to ensure La Palma has more and better jobs,” especially “at a time when the island needs to transform the post-volcano recovery into a more stable, diversified economy capable of generating opportunities on its own.” Rodríguez emphasised that they are “putting their own resources on the table to support this change, with contracts that provide stability, trust, and a future for both workers and the productive fabric of La Palma.”

Application deadline until 4 September

Interested entities can submit their applications until 4 September through the Electronic Headquarters of the Cabildo of La Palma. The Employment Councillor, Susa Armas, has stated that “employment remains one of the main concerns for many families in La Palma, and from the Cabildo, we want to provide useful tools to ensure that hiring can become a real and stable opportunity.”

Armas has argued that this aid “supports companies and self-employed individuals who want to grow, but also those who need a gateway to the job market to build their life project on the island.” The grant is promoted by the Employment Area and is part of the active employment policies of the Cabildo to encourage the creation of stable and quality jobs.

For the residents of La Palma, this measure represents an opportunity to access permanent employment, especially for those groups with greater difficulties in job insertion. Companies, for their part, receive direct financial support that reduces hiring costs and promotes stability in their workforce. The initiative adds to other actions by the Cabildo to energise the island's labour market, such as training programmes and incentives for temporary hiring.

Interested parties can consult all necessary documentation on the Cabildo's electronic headquarters, where the application form is also available. The island institution recommends reviewing the specific requirements for each type of contract and ensuring compliance with the conditions before submitting the application, as the aid will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget of €650,000 is exhausted.
