The twelfth edition of the Reggae Can Festival will be held on August 7 and 8 in Punta del Hidalgo, with free entry and limited capacity. The lineup includes Mo'Kalamity, Green Valley, and General Levy.
The Reggae Can Festival returns to La Laguna for its twelfth edition with a lineup headed by the Franco-Cape Verdean Mo'Kalamity and the national group Green Valley. The event, which will take place on August 7 and 8 in Punta del Hidalgo, turns the municipality of La Laguna into the epicentre of reggae culture in the Canary Islands.
The official presentation took place this Thursday at the Casa de Los Capitanes of the La Laguna City Council, attended by councillors Dailos González (Festivities), Adrián de Castillo (Culture), Fran Hernández (acting councillor for Tourism), and Badel Albelo (Sports). Also present was the insular councillor for Culture, Museums, and Sports of the Tenerife Cabildo, José Carlos Acha, and the festival director, Ruth Barreto.
This year, the festival incorporates significant new features. For the first time, it will be held in a designated area with limited capacity, aiming to provide a more comfortable and safe experience for the audience. Nevertheless, entry will remain free.
The programme includes two days of live music, cultural activities, workshops, gastronomy, a market, and family spaces. Under the slogan 'Caring for the Nest', the festival reaffirms its commitment to culture, coexistence, and sustainability, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The lineup for the twelfth edition is led by Mo'Kalamity, one of the great voices of contemporary roots reggae. Alongside her are Green Valley, a reference in national reggae; General Levy, a British reggae and dancehall figure; and the Jamaican Summer, who resides in the Canary Islands.
The Canarian scene will play a leading role with Isa Izquierdo, who is experiencing significant international projection, and Dactah Chando, who will perform for the first time in band format at the festival. The lineup is completed by DJs Javadub, Warrior E, and Unruly Youth.
Additionally, the festival will kick off on August 6 with the Reggae Can Dub Party in Bajamar, a day dedicated to Sound System culture. Participants will include Lasai, Rootikal Bass Sound System, Narfyah, Warrior E, Sister Souto, and B Side Room, a collective dedicated to promoting dub in the Canary Islands.
The Reggae Can Festival XII is made possible thanks to the support of Turismo de Islas Canarias, through Promotur, the Government of the Canary Islands, the ICDC, and the Tenerife Cabildo. The City Council of San Cristóbal de La Laguna also collaborates through the areas of Festivities and Tourism, as well as the Autonomous Sports Organisation.
The residents of La Laguna and visitors will be able to enjoy an event that combines quality music with a strong commitment to the territory and its people. The event, which has established itself as one of the prominent showcases of the Canarian music scene, hopes to replicate the success of previous editions.
