The State Meteorological Agency forecasts very strong gusts of wind in inland areas of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura this Monday, along with light dust at altitude. Temperatures could reach 32 °C in parts of Gran Canaria.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a warning for strong winds and dust for this Monday, July 22, in the Canary Islands. The most intense gusts are expected during the night in the interior of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where north winds will blow with strong intervals and occasionally very strong gusts. In the mountainous islands, the low areas of the southeast and northwest will also experience strong winds.
Skies will generally be mostly clear or sunny, although cloudy intervals are expected in the early hours in the west of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as on the northern coast of the rest of the islands. During the afternoon, wide clearings will open up. Light dust at high levels will be a constant throughout the day, moderately reducing visibility.
Temperatures will experience little change, with a slight rise in maximums. In Gran Canaria, thermometers could reach between 30 and 32 degrees on the west and south slopes, while in the southern half of Fuerteventura, temperatures will hover around 30 °C. In the rest of the archipelago, temperatures will be more moderate and will not exceed 26 °C in the capitals.
In the capital of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures will range between 23 and 26 °C, with moderate north winds and mostly clear skies. In Arrecife, the forecast maximum is 23 °C, and in Puerto del Rosario, it is 22 °C. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures will be similar, without reaching extreme values.
Aemet recommends caution on the roads in the interior of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, especially during the night, due to wind gusts that may affect driving. It also advises avoiding outdoor activities in wind-exposed areas and protecting objects that may be displaced by gusts.
Light dust does not pose a serious health risk, but people with respiratory problems should take additional precautions, such as avoiding exertion outdoors and keeping windows closed. Visibility may be reduced in areas with higher concentrations of suspended dust.
In the rest of the archipelago, north winds will blow moderately, with strong intervals in the low areas of the southeast and northwest of the mountainous islands. In Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro, temperatures will remain stable, not exceeding 28 °C in the warmest areas.
Monday will generally be sunny and warm, with moderate to strong winds in some areas. Light dust will accompany throughout the day but is expected to dissipate from Tuesday, according to Aemet's forecasts.
