The Health Area of Fuerteventura has concluded the group Emotional Wellbeing programme, a pilot experience developed in the Basic Health Zone of Puerto del Rosario with 20 patients.
The Health Area of Fuerteventura has officially ended the group Emotional Wellbeing programme, a pilot initiative that started last January and has taken place over ten sessions in the Basic Health Zone of Puerto del Rosario. A total of twenty patients, referred from Primary Care Psychology consultations, participated in these workshops designed to improve emotional management and self-care.
During the sessions, attendees worked on tools to face daily difficulties, regulate emotions, and foster mutual support. The programme, driven by the Primary Care management of the Health Area, is part of a comprehensive care model that aims to complement the individualized follow-up provided by Psychology professionals.
The closing event, held last week in the municipality of Antigua, was attended by representatives from the Primary Medical Management, the Nursing Management, as well as the management and deputy management of the Basic Health Zone of Puerto del Rosario. All of them supported an initiative that reinforces the commitment of the Canary Health Service (SCS) to provide close and evidence-based care.
Several participants shared their experiences during the meeting and highlighted how the strategies learned have helped them face daily situations with greater confidence. According to sources from the Health Area, group workshops help reduce isolation and strengthen patients' confidence, without replacing the individualized follow-up conducted by Primary Care psychologists.
The positive results obtained from this pilot experience have led the Health Area management to plan the gradual extension of the programme to the rest of the basic health zones on the island. In this way, a community care model based on interdisciplinary coordination will be strengthened, which has already proven its effectiveness in the Basic Health Zone of Puerto del Rosario.
The initiative is part of the mental health policies of the SCS, which aim to offer complementary therapeutic resources to the population. In Fuerteventura, the demand for psychological care has been increasing in recent years, and programmes like this aim to provide a more agile and community-based response to patients' emotional needs.
The Health Area of Fuerteventura plans to begin implementing the programme in other basic health zones in the coming months, although specific dates and the centres that will join the initiative have not yet been announced. What is clear is that the pilot experience has met its objectives and lays the groundwork for a more integrative care model.
For the patients who participated, the programme has marked a turning point. As they noted during the closing, the tools learned now allow them to better manage stress and negative emotions, which directly impacts their quality of life. Mutual support among group members has been another highly valued aspect.
The Primary Care management expresses satisfaction with the results and hopes that the programme's extension will reach a larger number of patients across the island. The coordination between Psychology professionals and the nursing team has been key to the development of the workshops, which combine theory with practical exercises.
The Emotional Wellbeing programme joins other SCS initiatives in Fuerteventura to promote mental health, such as support groups for patients with anxiety or depression. The focus on group care allows for the optimization of resources and provides a space for shared listening and learning that, according to participants, is very enriching.
