The Vélez House of Ontanilla, one of the most significant examples of civil architecture in La Palma, hosts the presentation of the book "Recovery of the Vélez House of Ontanilla" this Thursday, July 30. The event is at 19:30 in the building itself, located in Llano de Argual, in the municipality of Los Llanos de Aridane.
The work, authored by nine researchers, addresses the building's past from its origins to the present, paying special attention to the restoration process that has allowed it to be returned to the cultural heritage of the island. The volume combines historical, architectural, and documentary approaches to provide a comprehensive view of the building.
Among the authors are Professor of Medieval History Ana Viña Brito, historian Daniel García Pulido, and architect José Miguel Márquez Zárate, who specializes in heritage restoration. The team also includes Daniela Martín Hernández, José Miguel Márquez Martinón, Luis Ortega Abraham, María Lozano Fernández, Juan Carlos Hernández Álvarez, and Jorge Lozano Vandewalle.
The collective publication covers nearly five centuries of the building's history, also known as the Count's House. Its pages explore the evolution of the building's uses, the stories of those who inhabited it, and the work done to ensure its conservation. According to the organizers, the book aims to become a reference work for understanding the trajectory of this construction.
