The music band Sol y Viento from Santa Lucía de Tirajana celebrates its 45th anniversary with a tour of eleven free concerts in parks and squares of the municipality, from September 2026 to March 2027.
The Cultural Association Sol y Viento of Santa Lucía de Tirajana commemorates its 45 years of history with a tour that will bring its music to eleven public spaces in the municipality. The initiative, driven by the Department of Culture, will kick off on September 18 and will run until March 19, 2027, featuring varied repertoires that include pop-rock, Spanish music, Canarian music, soundtracks, and classical music.
The Councillor for Culture, Sergio Vega, explained that this tour is part of the 'Cultura KM Cero' project, which aims to bring artistic proposals closer to the neighbourhoods and support local talent. "With this tour, we achieve two objectives: to take culture to the streets, to the squares, and to support local artists," Vega stated.
The band, founded in 1981, has maintained a constant activity over these four and a half decades, becoming one of the longest-standing musical formations in the region. Its director, Raquel Armas, who has played in the band since its inception, detailed that "we are going to perform four different types of repertoires: Spanish music, boleros, pasodobles, or Canarian music; we also have a repertoire for children, a Christmas one for December, and another more pop-rock."
Concert Schedule
The tour will begin on September 18 at Pozo Izquierdo park, and will continue on October 10 at Santa Lucía casco park. On October 30, the event will take place at Cruce de Sardina, and on November 28 at the San Nicolás de Bari square in Sardina del Sur.
In December, the band will offer two Christmas concerts: on the 18th at the San Pedro Mártir square in Doctoral and on the 19th at Avenida de Canarias. The schedule will continue in 2027 with dates on January 23 at Balos square, February 13 at La Orilla square, and February 20 at Casa Pastores square. The last two concerts will be on March 12 at La Paz park in Los Llanos and at El Canario park, which will close the tour.
The central concert of the anniversary will be on November 21, Santa Cecilia's Day, at the Víctor Jara theatre, with a programme dedicated to Spanish music from the seventies. The band director, Juan Antonio Suárez, has particularly recommended this event: "We will celebrate the band's 45 years with our audience."
"All you need is the desire to have fun and enjoy yourself, so I recommend that you don’t let laziness take over and go to all the concerts you can because you will have a great time," Suárez encouraged.
All concerts will have free entry and are designed for audiences of all ages, with a children's repertoire on some dates. The tour represents an opportunity for residents of the various neighbourhoods of Santa Lucía to enjoy live music without needing to travel.
The band Sol y Viento has been a cultural reference in the municipality for decades, participating in patronal festivals, institutional events, and musical gatherings. Its longevity makes it an example of continuity in the cultural associationism of the island.
The Department of Culture has highlighted that the programme has been designed to reach all neighbourhoods, from the coast to the midlands, and that any modifications will be communicated through municipal channels. The tour will conclude in March 2027, but the band is already working on new projects to continue celebrating its anniversary.
